POETRY BY MORGAN VENTURA

6/11/2021

TRIGGER WARNING: WAR / THE PRODUCT AND AFTERMATH OF

Siege of Dubrovnik

Citrine sun knifes the sky,
a solar pillage.

Landmines rain down below and
steal frontiers of nations.

My great-aunt’s yard yields atomic roses and delicate oak
and we sip wine and squint at soldiering clouds.

No animals arrive as explosions
caress and claim limbs of wanderers.

War again in Croatia,
the Adriatic swells with souls.
