POETRY BY JULIA BODURA YOST

1/13/2022

TITS UP

I spent the better part of a decade
Rebuilding the spine
That you took away;
Vertebrae by vertebrae.

Now I stand tall;
Shoulder blades against the wall.
Bone on glass.
Lean back.

-

Ballard, Seattle

Open the locks
and let it all pour out;
The first summer storm
after weeks without rain.
The salmon are swimming
away from the sea;
Upstream.
To spawn in the very place they were born,
Only to die shortly thereafter,
Because they expelled all their energy
Just getting home.
