POETRY BY CLEO JOHNSON

TW: THE END OF THE WORLD

CIRCLING DRAINS

We are all alone together
Hand in trembling hand
Tears in our eyes
Thinking that the time
Has long passed
Wanting the time to be now
Asking the questions
Of long shrouded mysteries

We watch atrocities carried out
In the name of greed
All with the bright
And shining
Glass toothed smile
Of the liars
And cheats
Forked tongues flicking
Signaling the destruction
Of us all

It is enough to want it all to end
To wish for fire to overwhelm us
As the sun finally explodes
To terrorize us all
And will it be welcomed

We keep pace
We open our eyes
To the thrill of it all
The thought that it might
End soon enough

Wandering
Wondering
Singing familiar songs
And we have never
Forgotten the words
Is this divine retribution
Or a reminder to dance

Is this the end
Or is it our
Boiling
Bloody future
Suspended in time
